This Chester County Armory listing is for a Finnish Valmet M78 7.62x51mm NATO / .308WIN fully transferable light machine gun.

Originally manufactured as a light machine gun version of the Finnish RK 62, the M78 is basically a Finnish evolution of their AK style platform built to coincide with the Russian transformation of the AK-47 into an RPK-47. The M78 shares many distinctions similar to it’s Russian counterpart, such as a longer barrel, folding bipod assembly, and a clubfoot stock. However, while similar in design, the Valmet M78 is often considered by experts to be a significantly superior model to the Soviet RPK due to tighter manufacturing tolerances and improved materials. This created a model that is generally considered to be a more accurate and reliable LMG then its Russian counterpart, offering superior caliber options for long range engagements over the standard Soviet models.

This specific example was originally imported into the US as a semi-automatic rifle version and was then converted and NFA registered as a transferable machine gun by renowned Class 3 Gunsmith  J.D. Farmer of Hard Times Armory in Smyrna, GA. Overall, this model is in fantastic condition. Mechanically, this model is in excellent, fully operational condition. All mechanisms operate smoothly and appropriately. The internals note some minor wear at the metal-to-metal contact points of the action, but nothing that is out of the ordinary based on normal use. The bore remains bright and shiny with crisp, clean, well-delineated rifling. The metalwork is solid with no dents, dings, cracks, malformation, gouges, etc. observed.

Cosmetically, this transferable machine gun is also in very good condition.   The original red-toned wooden furniture is in excellent, well above-average condition, with no cracks, dents, dings, etc. and only very limited handling marks observed. The external parkerization of the metal is also in very good condition, with only minor surface scratches and handling marks in the exterior parkerized finish (which is common to these rifles due to the style of parkerization).

This NFA registered, fully transferable machine gun is currently on an eForm ready Form 3 for quick and easy transfer. The current NFA paperwork lists the manufacturer as “Hard Times Armory” and the model as “M78.”
