This Chester County Armory listing is for a rarely seen as a fully transferable model, Austrian factory original, Steyr Werke AG (Steyr-Daimler-Puch) MPi-69 9x19mm NATO submachine gun with MPi-81 upgrades and a Curtis Tactical suppressor.

One of only a handful of fully transferable models ever imported into the US and allowable for civilian transfer, this Steyr MPi-69 / MPi-81 is an Austrian-factory built submachine gun.  The MPi-69 was originally Steyr’s answer for the need for a modernized, compact, reliable submachine gun. Strongly influenced in its design by Uziel Gal’s Uzi SMG, the smooth, refined operating system of the Mpi-69 is exactly what one would expect when combining the utilitarian Uzi with the brilliance and workmanship of Austrian engineering. Steyr made some significant improvements by reducing the weight significantly, and yet maintaining a robust, reliable design that was easy to produce. The MPi 69 features a unique operation system that allows the sling and its attachment area to be used as the charging handle to initially charge the weapon, however it proved to be cumbersome at times, if a sling wasn’t desired.   In an effort by Steyr to further modernize the model in 1981, the sling charging system was redesigned and replaced with a more traditional charging handle and the forward sling mount was moved to the barrel nut. These changes resulted in the newer Mpi-81 model designation.

This particular weapon is an early generation model of the MPi-69 and sports a four digit serial number. The charging handle and front barrel nut have been upgraded to the MPi-81 configuration to allow for easier operation and charging of the weapon. A Curtis Tactical 9mm Model MPi81 submachine gun suppressor is also included. The suppressor replaces the barrel nut to be solidly integrated into the weapon. Purchase will also include two factory Steyr magazines, an original Steyr MPi-81 factory owner’s manual, and original Steyr MPi-81 factory cleaning kit, and the original MPi-69 charging handle, sling, and barrel nut.

Overall, this transferable machine gun is in excellent condition. It has been test fired and runs flawlessly with standard NATO spec ammunition. The upper metal receiver is the NFA registered part on this weapon. The machine gun receiver, bolt,  and barrel all note the same Steyr four digit factory original serial number. However, the polymer grip frame is an un-matching Steyr factory serial number. Mechanically,  the weapon’s action is smooth and fully functional, with no noted operational or mechanical concerns, whatsoever.  The bolt and internals are in excellent condition, with only minor wear markings noted on the original serial number matched bolt assembly. The bolt face remains clean and crisp and the bolt operation remains silky smooth. The bore is  bright and shiny with crisp and clean rifling. The metalwork displays no dents, dings, cracks, gouges, malformations, etc. The polymer lower is solidly intact, with only minor handling marks and surface scratches observed.

Cosmetically, this weapon is in very good overall condition. The original parkerization remains solidly intact, with only minor points of physical exterior wear and surface scratches observed.  Minor handling and use marks are also observed on the polymer lower, but again, no cracks, dents, dings, or points of concern are noted.

This fully NFA transferable Steyr MPi-69 / Mpi-81 submachine gun is currently on a Form 3 that lists “Form 2 Registration” as the manufacturer and “Steyr” as the model.
