This Chester County Armory listing is for an West German factory original Heckler & Koch VP70M 9x19mm Pre-May dealer sample only machine pistol.
Originally first designed and produced in 1970 at the start of the Cold War, the Heckler & Koch VP70 series firearms (a.k.a. Volkspistole of 1970 or “people’s pistol of 1970”) were the very first production handguns produced with an entirely polymer frame. This unique-at-the-time system featured two distinct models: the semi-automatic VP70Z marketed for civilian sale and this spectacular model, the VP70M military select fire version. The VP70M was first envisioned by H&K at the time to be able to delivered to civilian participants behind enemy lines in the event of a Soviet invasion, similar to the US Liberator pistols dropped across Europe to resistance fighters during WW2. Small, fairly light weight, and somewhat cheap and easy to make due to the polymer frame, the VP70M were never used to fulfill these needs, but they were designed and built with them in mind.
This rarely seen (even as a Pre-May dealer sample) model utilizes a detachable stock/holster design that allows the weapon to be switched from a semi-automatic fire mode to a three round burst fire controls. Reminiscent of the German Mauser model 712 Schnellfeuer pistols, the detachable stock also serves as holster that can be attached to a belt via a polymer adapter, and an almost 2200 RPM burst rate, the VP70M creates quite the fireworks display with a single pull of the trigger!
This rare model is in outstanding collector-grade condition. It is IA date coded, noting a West German production of 1980. Mechanically, this machine pistol runs flawlessly and all mechanisms operate appropriately. The silky smooth slide and internals show almost no wear. The barrel is bright and shiny with crisp, clean rifling. The bolt face is crisp and clean with no physical wear observed. Cosmetically, the polymer frame and holster are in absolutely stunning condition for an almost 50 year old polymer firearm, with no virtually no observed handling marks in or on the polymer, whatsoever. The parkerized slide is also in excellent condition, with only minor handling marks observed in the factory original finish, most notably a small physical mark in the metal on the right side of the front sight at the apex (see photos).
Purchase of this fantastic select-fire machine gun includes not only the detachable stock/holster, but also the original box, belt adapter for the holster, original mounting slings and webbing, and six factory 18rd magazines.
This Pre May dealer sample only machine gun is currently on a Form 3 for quick and easy transfer. The current NFA Form 3 lists “Imported NFA Firearm” as the manufacturer and “VP70M” as the model.
