This Chester County Armory listing is for a rare and hard-to-find Gemtech Mirage 9mm integrally suppressed upper for the Colt 9mm SMG.

The Gemtech Mirage was originally created for use based on a request by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to provide agents of the Chemical Lab Enforcement Team with a suppressed weapon to be used in raids and other situations where not only was sound suppression a factor, but also to avoid as much flash and spark as possible from a weapon being fired in an enclosed area with possible volatile chemicals present. Chemicals that could possibly spark an explosion with a round discharge from the muzzle flash. In other words, the DEA needed a gun that would prevent them from blowing themselves up accidently when fired in a meth lab.

This model was one of Gemtech’s version for the DEA. Meant to be the ultimate in both sound and flash suppression, this Gemtech Mirage is built on an original Colt marked flat-top Alcoa Forge full size upper utilizing a 5″ threaded barrel. The suppressor attaches by threading onto both a large barrel nut, as well as internally to the threads on the barrel. This double attachment allows for a tight sealing suppression that forces all gas forward. Coupled with its innovative interior baffle design and volume area helps the Mirage prevent any unburnt gas and powder from leaving the muzzle when fired. The brass deflector has also been covered with a special angled rubber buffer to further reduce noise and spark.  Many of these models originally featured a fixed front sight with a standard A2 carry handle upper, but this model had the front sight removed by Gemtech and an A3 rear upper used for a complete sight picture clearance when mounting an optic on the flat-top upper.

Overall, this suppressor and upper are in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. The included Colt 9mm BCG notes only minor wear, with a crisp bolt face. The barrel rifling remains clean and crisp. The upper notes only minor handling marks in the original anodized black finish, mostly upon the rail where an optic was mounted and removed.

This integrally suppressed upper is currently on an eForm capable Form 3 which lists “Gemtech” as the manufacturer and “Mirage” as the model.
