This Chester County Armory listing is for an all-German factory original Heckler & Koch G3 SG/1 7.62x51mm NATO fully transferable machine gun. This is a German factory built original transferable machine gun and is not a conversion model.

This fantastic weapon was originally made in Oberndorf, West Germany in 1984 by Heckler & Koch GmbH as a factory machine gun, as designated by its IE date coded receiver. It was then subsequently imported by H&K themselves into the United States as a direct sale for a US Law Enforcement agency. Based on BATFE’s import rules and provisions in the Gun Control Act of 1968 (as well as designations made in the Firearm Owner’s Protection Act of 1986), this allows models meeting certain LE use and purchase requirements to be classified as transferable models upon release by the LE agency, even though it is a post-1968 foreign-made machine gun. It is unknown how many of these factory models are available as transferable, but it is speculated to be in the low double digits.

HK G3 SG/1’s were built at the factory after being individually selected from standard models off of the G3 production line that were identified as displaying outstanding accuracy during test-firing. These more accurate models were then modified to be used as sharpshooter and sniper version (designated as the G3 SG/1) by incorporating a factory set trigger (that retains its full-auto function), installation of a rear stock with an adjustable check rest, installation of a heavy buffer system, the addition of a factory mounted Zeiss Diavari-DA scope, and a incorporation of a lengthened front hand guard with an factory installed bi-pod. Early G3/SG1 models were simply marked as G3 on the receiver as the modern, however as the demand and reputation for these models grew, HK later started marking the receivers as “G3 SG1” from the factory, creating a desired collection piece. This model is designated as “G3 SG1” on the left side of the receiver from the factory.

As an original, H&K factory production gun, this transferable select-fire machine gun features the H&K machine gun push pin design that allows all H&K factory machine gun trigger packs to be installed. This model, of course, features the SEF with set trigger that the SG1 models were known for for, along with its original factory Carl Zeiss Diavari-DA 1.5-6x scope and factory H&K claw mount. This weapon also features its original SG1 adjustable stock with heavy buffer, its original ejection port buffer, and its original factory folding bipod installed.

This model is in excellent, well-above average condition for a former Law Enforcement agency owned firearm. While it is used, this model appears to have been extremely well maintained (as DMR and sniper models tend to be).  All mechanisms operate smoothly and appropriately. The bolt and bolt carrier note only minor wear. The barrel remains bright with well-defined rifling. Both the metalwork and furniture are in excellent condition, with only very minor handling marks observed. The selector lever notes some finish wear at the metal-to-metal contact points from operational use and the inlayed paint of the fire controls has degraded slightly, but the remainder of the cosmetic finish is in outstanding condition. The optic remains clear but does note either some minor dust/dirt occlusions or minor scratches in the reticle that do not affect functionality. Unfortunately, we are unable to photo document the reticle occlusions. The scope remains solidly operational, but the inclusions can be seen when viewing through the scope. All knobs and adjustments operate appropriately and the optic tube remains gas sealed.

Cosmetically, the original finish on this weapon in excellent condition, with limited surface markings. The set trigger housing notes some minor texture in the original paint, but no corrosion or degradation is observed. The selector lever has moderate finish wear. The polymer extended forearm notes some minor light surface markings on the bottom of the forearm, likely from use in a position on a shooting bench with the bipod folded into the forearm. Overall, this model is in excellent condition for a former LE model.

This rare, investment-grade, German factory manufactured Heckler & Koch transferable machine gun is currently on a Form 3 for easy transfer. The current NFA paperwork lists “HECKLER AND KOCH GMBH” as the manufacturer and “GESG1” as the model.
