This Chester County Armory listing is for a World War One era German Maxim 08/15 8mm Mauser transferable belt-fed machine gun that was NFA registered by gunsmith Charles Erb.

This transferable machine gun was initially built by S&H (Simon and Halbig) in Berlin, Germany in 1917. It was later reactivated and NFA registered by renowned gunsmith Charles Erb. Known for his excellent work in reconstructing many WWI and WWWII era foreign weapons, this beautiful Maxim 08/15 is a shining example of Mr. Erb’s mechanical prowess. This transferable machine gun, NFA registered serial number 1104, notes mostly matching numbers throughout the weapon, including the upper receiver, side plate, top cover, cocking mechanism, stock, and various small parts. Only the drum hanger, feed mechanism, and bolt appear to have been replaced (most probably due to necessity in the reactivation process).

Overall, this transferable machine gun is in excellent mechanical condition, with no operational concerns. The receiver and internals are all in outstanding condition, with no dents, dings, malformations, etc. noted. The exterior water jacket notes only minor small indentations in the metal. The original wooden stock notes two small cracks on either side of the butt piece, but remains solid and fully functional. Cosmetically, this weapon is overall in very good condition for weapon that is over 100 years old. The metalwork has patinaed appropriately at spots, and the original paint on the water jacket is chipped and marked at various locations. However, there is no corrosion or pitting noted.

Purchase of this transferable machine gun will include an original German drum magazine, original bipod field mount, and an original cloth belt with brass starter. This transferable belt-fed machine gun is currently on an NFA eForm capable Form 3 that lists “Form 2 Registration” as the manufacturer and “MG08/15MAXI” as the model.
