This Chester County Armory listing is for a beautiful, collector-grade, all-matching serial numbers, original German 1945 wartime production StG44 / MP44 Sturmgewehr 8mm kurz transferable select-fire machine gun.

Chambered in one of the first true intermediate rifle cartridges in 7.92x33mm (a.k.a., 8mm kurz), this fantastic piece of military history is a wonderful original example of the world’s first assault rifle. This weapon is an all original German assembled, late war production factory model, with all serial numbers matching. It was assembled at the J.P. Sauer and Sohn factory in Suhl, Germany, as designated by the “ce” ordinance coding. The receiver also boasts the Germany ordinance code of “cos“, signifying production of the receiver by Merz-Werke in Frankfurt, Germany with a 1945 date code. The internals and the magazines are observed to be marked “fxo” for production of those parts by C.G. Haenel in Suhl, Germany.  This was a common production occurrence on these weapons as during World War II, the Germans assembled the StG-44’s in a single factory with components that were subcontracted by various manufacturer’s around Germany, so as to not have a single point of production that could be destroyed.  During the actually assembly process , the major components of the StG-44 were serialized to match the receiver, so as to allow easy identification and prevent mismatching of parts by soldiers in the field.

Purchase of this model will include the original military sling pictured, as well as four 30rd original magazines that are all “fxo” Haenel production marked.

This select-fire transferable machine gun is in outstanding overall condition for a 80 year old wartime production machine gun! Mechanically, all mechanisms operate silky-smooth and appropriately. No cracks, splits, or malformations in the metal are noted and only minor scratches and surface-deep markings are observed in the metalwork. The bolt face remains clean and crisp. The carrier and piston note only minor wear. The fire controls function appropriately with good spring life in the trigger system.

Cosmetically, this weapon is excellent for its age. While it does denote handling, use, and storage marks in its exterior, the weapon maintains approximately 90% of its original factory bluing.  The furniture remains solid, however there is a small chip to note in the rear of the original wooden stock on the left side at the butt. This is the only part of concern, as the stock maintains no other splits, cracks, etc. This small chip does not affect the structure of the stock, whatsoever. The magazines are all in excellent condition, with stiff solid springs and only minor finish wear observed. The sling notes some fraying at areas of the fabric, but remains solid and strong.

This fantastic, investment-grade transferable C&R select-fire machine gun is currently on a Form 3 for quick and easy transfer. The current NFA paperwork lists “Germany” as the manufacturer and “STG44” as the model.
