This Chester County Armory listing is for a rare, like-new condition, factory Colt built and NFA registered Colt M16A2 Auto marked 5.56mm NATO 20″ barreled transferable machine gun.

Affectionately known in the NFA/M16 world as “the black guns, ” this transferable machine gun is one of only 80 models ever released from the Colt factory as complete, fully NFA transferable, factory-built commercial M16A2 auto marked machine gun with a more modern black finish. These models were NFA registered by Colt in a consecutive serial number range beginning with 80300XX prior to the May 1986 deadline, kept in Colt’s archives, and then eventually transferred to the private collection of former Colt executive John Keosayian. Of these 80 models, 20 were 11.5″ barrel Commandos, 20 were 14.5″ barrel carbines, and the remaining 40 were 20″ flat top rifles, such as this one.  This transferable factory machine gun features SAFE, SEMI, and AUTO marked fire controls and the original 20″ M16A2 1/7 twist 5.56mm NATO barreled flattop upper with rear carry handle.

Mechanically, this model is in outstanding, like new condition. It notes only very minor physical markings and it appears like it may or may not have been fired outside of any factory testing, as the weapon still notes the original factory Colt grease on the rear sight assembly and bolt carrier group. The bore is bright and shiny with crisp, clean rifling. The internals display minor markings, but no usage wear.

Cosmetically, the exterior of this weapon notes some minor handling and storage marks at spots in its original factory finish (see photos) consistent with its age and rarity. All markings are only surface in nature, and no dents, dings, gouges, deep scratches, or malformations are observed.

Purchase of this transferable machine gun will include an original Colt factory box and sleeve that is era-correct for distribution, however the box does not note a corresponding label from Colt. Also included are a sealed Colt Owner’s Pack with an original M16A2 rifle manual, sling, 30rd magazine, and cleaning accessories. Two additional Colt factory 30rd magazines are also included with this weapon.

This rare, collectible Colt M16A2 factory machine gun is fully transferable and currently on a Form 3. The current Form 3 lists “Colt” as the manufacturer and “M16A2” as the model.
