This Chester County Armory listing is for a factory original Auto Ordnance Model 1928 A22 Thompson .22LR transferable submachine gun.

Built by Auto-Ordnance in West Hurley, NY in the early 1980’s, these Thompson 1928 A22 machine guns in .22LR were produced in very limited numbers by the company in their West Hurley, NY factory. Auto Ordnance retained the original 1928 dimensions for the weapon, but through the addition of a magazine well adapter, a smaller, lighter, bolt setup,  and different barrel, they turned the original .45acp design into a more economical and lighter submachine gun that had considerably less operational recoil. This model was ideal for both fun range shooting, as well as economical training for its big brother counterpart.

This model has been recently fully inspected and function tested by renowned Class 3 gunsmith Mike Friend of Firing Line in Wyandotte, OK.  It runs extremely reliably for a .22LR machine gun with normal high-velocity .22LR factory ammunition. This model features the 1928 vertical wood grip, along with an 11″ finned barrel with removable Cutts compensator. This select-fire machine gun also notes standard 1928 factory fire controls, along with rear windage adjustable peep sight.  Purchase of this model will include two original 30rd magazines as supplied by the Auto Ordnance factory.

Mechanically, this weapon is in outstanding condition. The barrel rifling remains clean and well-defined. The internals note no wear concern. The bolt face remains crisp and clean. The metalwork is solidly intact with no dents, dings, cracks, gouges, malformations, or any cause for operational concern. Both included magazines also note strong spring tension and solid followers. The weapon runs reliably well with both included magazines.

Cosmetically, this model is in overall very good condition with only minor handling and use marks observed in the original anodized finish along with some minor finish wear at various locations (see photos). This wood components are in excellent condition, with no cracks or dents, and only minor light surface handling marks observed.

The transferable submachine gun is currently on an eForm ready Form 3 that lists “Auto Ordnance” as the manufacturer and “1928” as the model.
