Status: In-Stock / Please Call to Purchase
This Chester County Armory listing is for a fantastic condition Steyr MPi-81 9x19mm NATO Pre-May Dealer Sample Only submachine gun.
This model was originally factory built by Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG in Austria as an MPi-69 model, but has been upgraded to an MPi-81 model with the addition of the factory Steyr MPi-81. The upgraded parts designs allowed the cocking knob to be changed from it’s sling-mounted first generation design to a more conventional, non-reciprocating, charging handle on the left side of the receiver. This change dramatically increased both the reliability of the system, as well as ease of use.
The Pre-May dealer sample machine gun also features its original collapsible wire stock, and sports a 1/2x28mm threaded 9.5″ factory barrel with a fluted thread protector. Steyr MPi models were known to use different generational magazines throughout their development. This particular model uses the most commonly seen, final generation trapezoidal magazine. This submachine gun was imported into the US by Law Enforcement Supply (L.E.S.) of Skokie, IL. Both the upper and the lower receiver have matching serial numbers, however the upgraded MPi-81 bolt is numbered differently.
Overall, this weapon is in outstanding mechanical condition. This models runs fantastic with standard SAAMI spec 9mm ammunition. The bolt and internals are in excellent condition, with no noted internal wear and a clean, crisp bolt face. The bore remains bright and shiny with crisp, clean rifling. The metalwork displays no dents, dings, cracks, malformations, etc. The polymer lower is perfectly intact, with no cracks or polymer degradation, whatsoever.
Cosmetically, this weapon is also in very good condition, with only some minor wear at the metal-to-metal contact point of the charging handle and receiver noted. The left side of the front sight also notes a small area where the finish is slightly worn due to contact of the original MPi-69 sling mounted charging handle. The remaining areas of the metalwork note only minor surface handling marks in the parkerization. The grooves of the polymer lower remain crisp, with no noted degradation or wear. There are some minor handling marks noted in the flat surface of the polymer lower, but nothing that is more than surface cosmetic in nature.
This Steyr MPi-81 9mm submachine gun is available as a Pre-May Dealer Sample only. It is currently on a Form 3 that lists “Steyr” as the manufacturer and “Steyr” as the model.
