This Chester County Armory listing is for a factory original Colt AR-15 Model 614 5.56mm NATO transferable machine gun.

Manufactured completely by Colt, the Model 614 was a closely patterned version of the military production M16 that was offered by Colt for sale to civilian and commercial entities. Marked “AR-15” and “Model 614″ on the magazine well, this particular model would have been built around 1965, and features the fixed stock, A1 furniture with a 20” barreled rifle upper. The barrel is “C MP CHROME BORE” marked and features the mid-to-later 1960s production full-cage flash hider, instead of the early three-prong style. This commercial version is also one of the examples that Colt manufactured with a black finish over the anodization of the M16, so as to make it more attractive for sale on the commercial market, and separate it from the military versions.  The fire controls are “SAFE”, “SEMI”, and “AUTO” marked. The original manufacturer markings on the left rear side of the receiver are properly spaced out to allow for the placement of the sear pin, as is correct for identification of an original factory produced Colt machine gun.

Overall, this transferable machine gun is in excellent condition. Mechanically, it notes very little internal wear on the fire control group, and only minor wear markings on the bolt assembly. The original BCG group does note the forward assist markings, even though the slick side upper it was originally paired with by Colt has no forward assist. This was common to many of the Colt commercial models produced during the mid 1960’s, as Colt continued to use their stock of slick side uppers on commercial versions even after they bolts were made to accommodate the later changes. The BCG group pre-dates Colt’s “C” marking of the carrier, but can be identified as a Colt production carrier by the large diameter retaining pin hole common on Colt production from this time frame. The barrel rifling is still clean and crisp and the metalwork of the firearm is in excellent, solid condition. .

Cosmetically, the exterior finish does note brass markings and some finish wear on the ejection area of the slick slide upper. The receiver also denotes minor handling and use marks in the exterior finish, but nothing that is cause for functional concerns. The original A1 furniture is in excellent condition, with only minor surface markings, and no cracks, chips, dents, dings, etc. of concern.

This Colt factory Model 614 is an NFA registered, fully transferable machine gun and is currently on a Form 3 for easy transfer. The Form 3 lists “Colt” as the manufacturer and “AR-15” as the model.
