This Chester County Armory sale listing is for an original, Italian factory-made, Pietro Beretta AR-70/223 standard automatic rifle available as a Pre May Dealer Sample Only machine gun.
Designed by Beretta engineers in the early 1970’s based off the engineering information they learned from Beretta’s joint venture with Swiss company SIG in creating the SG 530 a decade prior, the AR-70/223 standard automatic rifle became the machine gun platform that Italian forces would base all of their military and LE assault rifles off of up to the present day.
Chambered in the NATO .223REM/5.56x45mm caliber, this factory original model is the standard automatic rifle version of the AR-70/223, showcasing a full length 17.7″ barrel with a full sized fixed rifle stock. This model also notes the original grenade launcher gas cut-off switch, rear flip-up grenade launcher sight, and three position fire selector controls. This particular model was imported through Beretta USA while they were based in Accokeek, MD.
This Pre-May Dealer Sample Only machine gun is in fantastic overall condition. Mechanically, the metalwork is in like new condition, with no dents, dings, gouges, malformations, etc. The internals are clean with only limited wear markings noted on the bolt and fire controls. The bolt face remains crisp and clean. The rifle bore is bright and shiny with crisp, clean, well-delineated rifling. Cosmetically, this weapon is also on beautiful condition, with very few noticeable handling marks in its original Beretta factory matte black finish and only minor surface markings on the original polymer fixed stock and forend. The original left-side painted fire control markings are starting to degrade slightly on the “1” marked control, but they remainder “S” and “A” markings are solidly intact. This weapon has been test-fired and it runs flawlessly with standard M193 spec ammunition, for which it had been designed.
