This Chester County Armory listing is for an original, factory-produced, Medea Corporation M3A1 .45acp transferable submachine gun.
Affectionately nicknamed the “Grease Gun” for its resemblance to the staple garage lubrication tool, this M3A1 was one of approximately 72 factory built versions by Medea Corporation in Ormond, Florida that were NFA registered and commercially sold specifically for the NFA market in the early 1980’s. While the Medea Corporation has always been tight-lipped about the original intention of these models, speculation was always that the commercially available models were overruns from a US Government contract held by Medea Corp to create models for the CIA to distribute in the early 1980’s in places that…well, let’s just say the US Government wasn’t necessarily supposed to be.
These M3A1’s were built by Medea using unmarked and unfinished clamshell halves that were thought to have been originally manufactured by Ithaca (but not completed) and original surplus GI parts that were provided to them out of US military inventories. Medea was responsible for welding the halves together, installing the components, and registering them on the NFA registry, making them commercially available for sale.
This particular transferable submachine gun is in excellent overall condition both mechanically and cosmetically. It has been test fired and runs absolutely flawlessly with standard SAAMI spec .45acp ammunition. Mechanically, it is in excellent condition, with only very minor finish wear observed on the rear of the bolt assembly. The bolt face remains clean and crisp with a solid, well defined fixed firing pin with sharp edges. The barrel is bright and shiny and the rifling remains clean and crisp. The metalwork is in outstanding condition, with no dents, dings, gouges, malformations, etc. observed. The welds are solid, strong, and clean throughout the weapon.
Cosmetically, this model is also in excellent condition! The original gray parkerized finish is beautiful and consistent throughout the the gun. The exterior metalwork notes only very minor surface handling marks and slight oil spots. Overall, the weapon cosmetically appears in near new condition.
Purchase of this transferable submachine gun will include (4) original USGI 30rd magazines. Three of the included magazines are still in their USGI sealed anti-corrosion packaging from February of 1974.
This fully transferable submachine gun is currently on a Form 3 for easy transfer. The current NFA Form 3 lists “Form 2 Registration” as the manufacturer and “M3A1 as the model.
