Colt 1911 .45acp US Property Marked Pre-WWI 1913 Production with US Arsenal WW2 RIA Upgrades

This Chester County Armory listing is for an early, pre-World War One, 1913 original production Colt 1911 .45acp US Property marked semi-auto pistol originally manufactured for and possessed by the US Army.

This model denotes a relatively early five digit serial number (37541). It also notes the flaming bomb stamp along with “F K” initials, noting completion of WW2 US Arsenal overhaul/upgrades at Rock Island Arsenal with acceptance by Frank Krack, the inspector at RIA from 1941-1946. After approximately 47 years of ownership and service in the United States Army, this weapon was sold off by the US Military in 1960 through the Civilian Marksmanship Program. It was shipped out of the US Army’s Anniston Ordnance Depot in Bynum, AL to civilian in the Philadelphia, PA area. This model will come with its original CMP shipping box and wax paper, along with two magazines, one of which is still sealed in its CMP wrapping. Photocopies of the original receipt displaying the serial number and shipping bill-of-lading will be included with the purchase. The original purchase name and address has been redacted on these document copies by the original owner.

Overall condition on this weapon is outstanding for a 113 year old weapon that appears to have not been touched in 80+ years since it was arsenal overhauled by the US Military at Rock Island. The parkerization is beautiful and consistent, with only minor holster wear observed on the front of the muzzle. The action operates buttery smooth and the slide to frame fit remains relatively tight. All fire control and internals operate as expected. Cosmetically, outside of the wear at the muzzle, the finish is well-above average for a specimen from this era, and notes only minor handling marks. The wood grips remain strongly checkered with no splits, cracks, scratches, etc. observed.
